there, it will be in C:\Windows\Web. I lost my desktop and wanted it back( had

Invalid Page Fault Opening Control Panel
SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to open Control Panel, an invalid page fault
may occur in Kernel32.dll.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if a Control Panel extension (.cpl) file is damaged.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, determine which .cpl file is damaged, remove the file, and
then reinstall it. To do so, follow these steps:
- Start, point to Find, and then click Files Or Folders.
- the Named box, type "*.cpl" (without quotation marks).
- the Look In box, type "c:\<windows>\system" (without quotation marks), where <windows>is the name of your Windows
folder.
- Find Now.
- Double-click one of the .cpl files. If the file is damaged, an invalid page fault occurs
in Kernel32.dll. If an invalid page fault does not occur, repeat this step with each .cpl
file until an invalid page fault occurs. The file that causes the error message to be
displayed is the file that is damaged.
- the File menu in the Find window, click Close.
- Delete or rename the damaged .cpl file in the Windows\System folder.
- Control Panel to verify that it is functioning properly.
- Extract a new copy of the .cpl file you removed in step 7 from your original Windows 95
or Microsoft Plus! disks or CD-ROM. For information about the location of all the .cpl
files included with Windows 95 and Microsoft Plus!, see the table below. For information

Invalid Page Fault In Wininet.dll
Microsoft says this error pertains to IE3.0 but it also applies to IE4.0 as well. The message came on the screen over and over and over. I finally shut my
computer down, rebooted in Safe Mode, turned off the Active Desktop and got
it fixed as below. I also turned the Active Desktop back on. This deletes the History
and Cache folders and rebuillds them when you restart Windows95.
- Boot to DOS
- Go to C:\Windows
- type: smartdrv (enter)
- type: deltree /y history (enter)
- type -- deltree /y tempor~1 (enter)
Restart Windows95. Normally, that will do the trick.
If you are running user profiles, you will have to modify the paths to
point to your TIF and history in /windows/profiles/<username>\
where <username> is your Windows95 login name.

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 95
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0
SYMPTOMS
You may experience any of the following symptoms:
- You cannot see any icons in My Computer or Control Panel.
- You cannot change Web View setting in My Computer or Windows Explorer.
- You cannot move or resize desktop components.
CAUSE
You have disabled the "Enable ActiveX controls and plug-ins" option in
Internet Explorer, and you are running in Shell Integration mode.
Desktop components are moved or resized using ActiveX controls. If you disable ActiveX
controls and plug-ins, you disable the ability to move or resize desktop components. If
you are not using Web View in My Computer or Windows Explorer, you will still be able to
see icons in My Computer or Control Panel. When a window is using Web View mode, Windows
Explorer uses ActiveX controls and plug-ins to display the items within a folder. If you
disable ActiveX controls and plug-ins, you disable the ability to display folder contents.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use either of the following methods:
- Re-enable ActiveX controls and plug-ins. To do so, follow these steps:
1. In Internet Explorer, click Options on the View menu.
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Click Custom, and then click Settings.
4. Scroll to the Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins category.
5. Click Enable.
6. Click OK until all dialog boxes are closed.
Disable Shell Integration mode. To do so, follow these steps:
1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click
the Install/Uninstall tab.
2. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Internet
Explorer
4.0, and then click Add/Remove.
3. Click "Remove Web Integrated Desktop, but keep the Internet
Explorer
4.0 Web browser", and then click OK.
4. Click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
Note: You may be prompted to move items from your Recycle Bin
or close any running programs so that Internet Explorer
can reconfigure your system.
For additional information about this option, see the following
article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To keep from rearranging your tool bars everytime you open Internet Explorer, do this.
Set the toolbar to your preference (I like the Internet on top left, Menu to the
right of that and the Address below them). Now, hold down your Ctrl key and go to File

BUT, this only seems to work when IE is not in Full Screen mode (which is my favorite
mode). Bummer :(

Internet Explorer 4.0 Preview 2 has a bad habit of eating up all your system
resources--which can freeze the system. Windows 95 users can keep track of their
system resources with the Resource Meter, which, when running, resides in the System Tray
at the right end of the Windows Taskbar. To see if you have the program installed,
right-click the Start button, and choose Find; then search for Resource. The program will
appear in the results window; double-click it to start it.
Running the program causes the little Resource Meter to appear on your Taskbar. It's
normally green, but if it turns yellow, close Internet Explorer before it freezes the
system; then restart it. If Resource Meter is not installed on your system, you can
install it easily by choosing Start/Settings/Control Panel, and then double-clicking the
Add/Remove Programs icon. Click the Windows Setup tab; then click Accessories in the
Components list. Click the Details button, scroll down the list of components, and check
the System Resource Meter box. Have your Windows 95 CD handy so your computer can copy the
file, and follow the directions on the screen for installation.

Canceling a Posted Message
To cancel or delete a message that YOU authored and already have posted to a newsgroup,
use Compose | Cancel Message. Upon issuing the Cancel command, you should
get an acknowledgment from News that reads as follows: "Your cancellation
request has been sent to the news server. The canceled message may not disappear
immediately." Despite this message, your post may not disappear for a couple
of possible reasons. First, if you have changed your e-mail address or the name in your
account properties since the time of the original post, canceling the post will not work.
The settings for both your name and e-mail address need to match precisely for the cancel
command to work. Second, cancellations are handled entirely from the server-side and some
servers, for security reasons, do not permit cancellation fo messages. For more
information, read Knowledge Base Article Q164420. If you happen to be
working offline and have not posted your message, simply go to the Outbox, right click on
the message and select "Delete."

Disabling the Connection Manager. Any one of
the following methods
will "turn off" the Connection Manager:
Open up IE's properties (right click on "The Internet" icon on
your
desktop and choose Properties) and select the Connection tab. There
you'll
find two options "Connect to the Internet using a modem" and "Access
the
Internet via a local area network." Choosing the LAN option
will permanently turn
off the Connection Manager. BTW, one of the problems that can result from
using this approach is that if you have used the Connection Manager at
least
once, the next time you open IE after you have disabled the Connection
Manager, IE may terminate any active DUN connections. To stop IE from terminating
already active connections, open Regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Remote
Access and change the setting for "InternetProfile" to
an empty string. Do
not run the Connection Wizard again or you will have to re-apply the fix.

How to Change the Location of Temporary Internet Files
Article ID: Q172949
SUMMARY
This article describes how to change the location of the Temporary Internet Files folder.
MORE INFORMATION
The Temporary Internet Files folder is used to store data received from the Internet. By default, this folder is located in the Windows folder. To move the temporary files to another folder, follow these steps:
Internet Explorer 4.0
1.Create a new folder to store the files. For example, if you want to store the files in a folder named Ietemp on drive D, create the following folder:
D:\Ietemp
For information about how to create a folder, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "new folder" (without quotation marks), and then double-click the "New Folders" topic.
2.Start Internet Explorer.
3.On the View menu, click Internet Options.
4.On the General tab, click Settings.
5.Click Move Folder.
6.Click the folder you created in Step 1.
7.Click OK, click OK, and then click OK again.
8.Restart your computer.
(more on this below)
How to move the Temporary Internet Files (TIF) to a new location.
I'm sure the final version will
allow you to move the cache anywhere you like. If you are desperate to do
it now, you have to do a small registry hack. If you've never used Regedit,
find out how before you try this (or just wait 3 weeks ).
First, copy the Temporary Internet Files folder to its new location. Open
Regedit, navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
In the right-hand pane you will see "Cache", with the path. Right-click
this|Modify, and enter the complete path to the new location.
Reboot your computer, and, when you see "Starting Windows95", press F8,
choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only. Then type these commands exactly (assuming the default path):
attrib -s c:\windows\tempor~1
deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1 (this might take a few minutes)
Use Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot to Windows.
If you have multiple users on your PC, the paths will not be as stated. In
that case, forget about deleting c:\windows\tempor~1, even though it exists.
You must delete the \tempor~1 folder.
